Shine the Light
"Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house..."Matthew 5:15

The Foundation
Matthew 7:24-27 I’ve spent a lifetime learning
All the things I needed to know
Doing what I wanted to do
Going where I wanted to go
I may not be the best, but I’m the best I can be
Who else can run my life better than me?I’m better than all the others
That fall by the side of the road
They need others by their side
To help them carry the load
But I can stand on my own two feet
I may not dance, but I keep my own beatSo why should I give up all I’ve begun?
How can I forget all I have done?I’ve built my life with my own hands
With my own sweat and my own tears
Through the work of many years
It’s just that I know no other way
I can’t just get up and walk away
The world just wouldn’t understandBut now as I grasp to save my life
Which I built upon the sand
Although it was bright and beautiful
It falls now through my hand
It seemed so strong, it seemed so right
But now the sunshine turns to nightI’m not afraid, I’ll use my lamp
I’ll rebuild what I have made
I did it before, I’ll do it again
On the foundation I once laid
This must be the only way to go
I must rely on what I already knowOr could there be a better way to go?
For the first time in my life I just don’t knowI’ve built this life with my own hands
With nothing but sweat and tears
And no reward for all those years
I just never knew any other way
And now if I got up and walked away
The world just wouldn’t understandI admit to you I’d like your help
But let me guide you through
I’ve a certain way of doing things
Help me do what I want to do
Work with me, I have the lead
Work for me, I have the needWhy can’t you please just help me?
Help me or leave me beThe sea has washed away the sand
And I need something to build upon
Something that is very strong
Perhaps I’ll use this hardened ground
This rock that I have found
It’s surrounded by fertile landI understand, I need you now
I guess I always did
To guide me and teach me how it’s done
As when I was just a kid
I thought myself to be so grand
While all this time it was your great handLead me now, down the path of Life
Guide me with your own hand
Show me what I need to do
Show me where I stand
As I hear your words it all seems clear
“I’m sorry” is all you need to hearI put my life into your hands
Your will for me comes first
For I know I will never thirst
I know now there’s no other way
To have a life that will always stay
Though the world just doesn’t understandDo the hills seem lower?
Or has the sky gone up too high? -
Unfailing Love
Psalm 107:10-21,43, Matthew 15:8-9 In the morning when the sun begins to climb into the sky
I feel a sense of urgency to be right in your eyes
You tug hard at my heart
And I strive hard not to part far from your waysYou have put your trust in man, but he’s not put his trust in you
He tries to live his life as if it was his to gain or lose
You press hard on his heart
And try to let him start to learn your waysAnd though he’s heard your name on high
He looks up and often wonders why
He has no peace
He has no joy
He’s grown up from a little boy
And has great wisdom in his own eyesIn his time of trial, he turns far away from your love
In his hour of need, he asks for help from above
And you love him so much
You let him fall in such a learning wayHe claims to know just who you are, but his thoughts are far from you
His words are full of mighty things though his walk is not held true
Yet because you love him so
You must let go and hope that he’ll come homeAnd he’ll praise your name on high
He just can’t understand quite why
He has no peace
Or self-control
For he has a hardened, weary soul
Faithlessness has brought a heavy sighThen one day he acknowledges your Spirit and the truth
And the seed finds fertile soil and takes strong root
He finds wisdom in your words
With joy now all the birds can sing your songHe looks back on his foolishness, his weaknesses and pride
To see a trail hidden in shadow, where the stalking lions hide
He just couldn’t see
How many others learned to follow his leadNow I praise your name on high
Never understanding why
You showed me grace
And gave me love
By sending your Spirit from above
And giving me life while your Son went to die… -
In Your Glory
Hear us, O Lord, as we joyfully pray
All you have given us, we can’t repay
We lift up our hearts, we lift them up unto you
Bringing us closer to the one that is true
Happiness follows because you are near
And we have to sing so that the whole world may hearGod our king, thanks to thee
For the world’s greatest gift when you died
Blessed are we unconditionally
As we stand with our hearts held highHear us, O Lord, as we thankfully sing
Of the wonderful gift, called ‘Life’, that you bring
It lifts up the body and strengthens the heart
From you that connection we’ll not be apart
You gave it to us, to our children and friends
And our undying love for you will never endGod our king, thanks to thee
In your glory, we sing you this praise
Praise unto you and for all that you do
In all your magnificent waysHear us, O Lord, as we joyfully praise
Hear us, O Lord, as we thank you this day
For saving us all on that day that you died
We stand with our hearts held high -
O, My Strength
Psalm 16 O Lord, your love surrounds me
It gives me strength inside
The power to live
The power to change
From you, I will never hideO Lord, your love consumes me!
A love you have proven true
You gave your Son
Your only one
So what can I do for you?You lift me high up on your shoulders
Like a child I have become
Willing to learn
Learning your will
For on earth, your kingdom has comeI follow because you have called me
To be greater than the sum of my parts
You strengthen my spirit
Encourage my soul
From you I shall not be apartO Lord, your love protects me!
It is strong and patient and true
It fills me with joy
It sets me at ease
For I know I am nothing without you -
Shine the Light
Matthew 5:14-16, 2 Corinthians 4:6-12 Let your light shine on the world
Lift it high up in the air
For all to see
Let your lamp burn in the night
And you will seeHow many will draw near to the flame
Many more will run from its heat
Some will come close and be
Scorched by the fire
But never bow in defeatShine, shine the light
His glory will keep it bright
He is the Truth and the Way
We need to trust and obey
And let His glory shineLet your light light up the darkness
Bring it out from beneath the bowl
So all can see
Lift it up out of the hole
For all to seeHow many will find comfort from its heat
Many more will draw strength from its flame
Some will be cold
For they’re too far away
He won’t hear when they call on His nameShine, shine the light
Let His mercy shine so bright
He’ll be with us each day
If we walk in His Way
And let His mercy shineShine, shine the light
His glory will keep it bright
He is the Truth and the Way
We need to trust and obey
And let His glory shineLet it shine

Riches
Matthew 6:19-24, Psalm 39:11, Psalm 49:10, Psalm 16:5-6, Luke 12:16-21 Fix your eyes on things of Heaven
Not on treasures of the earth
Set your sights on things eternal
Not on those of passing worth
For the moths will come
And the rust, it will destroy
And the thieves will come and take it all awayStore up the everlasting
And the blessings they will flow
He will keep His promise to you
Keep His words and you will know
What it means to be
A rich and wealthy man
The life of whom will never see decayAnd the riches of His love rain down from Heaven
The river of His mercy flows so deep
His power and His glory shine forever
While the promise of His love will always keepLord, You gave to me all I have
What You give is all I need
So I won’t look for man to give me
A portion more than you’ve decreed
You fill me up
And I am satisfied
The things You give compel me to shareSo I set me sights on Heaven
And Your kingdom here on earth
Your love, it draws me nearward
My heart, You keep it pure
For the day will come
When it all passes away
And all will have to answer You thereAnd it won’t be long
‘Til I see Your face
So I’ll sing my songs
While I stand in Your grace… -
I Live for God
Romans 14:7-8 I live for God
Now and every day
My life is a blessing
I just can’t repayDon’t you see it on my face?
Can’t you see it in my eyes?
Don’t you hear it on my lips?
His light I will not hideI live for God
It wasn’t always so
I used to live for me
Not so long agoI knew what I wanted
He knows what I need
To have a life worth living
I must follow His leadMy life is a mist
That fades with the dawn
Through Him I have purpose
Hope to carry onHis ways are simple
Though I make them seem rough
My spirit is willing
His Love makes me toughI live for God
Now and every day
My life is a blessing
I just can’t repayI live for God
For He died for me
But only as His servant
Can I be set free -
Give Thanks to the Lord
Give thanks to the Lord,
Rejoice in His name.
Blessed was the earth
The day that He came.To save and protect us,
He died on that day
To bring us salvation
And wash sins away. Our Savior is He
And Champion o’er death;
Proclaim His great name
With every new breath! He suffered and died
Then He rose up above;
Let’s sing of His glory
And tell of His love.Give thanks to the Lord;
For us, He did die;
And with Him our sins,
Sing His name on high!He rose in great glory
May all the world hear
Of God and the story
That’s told loud and clear…A great sacrifice
We cannot repay
But with word and deed
And love that doth stay.We raise up our voices
In gleeful accord
With great exultation
Give thanks to the Lord! -
I’ve Been Called
Matthew 28:18-20 The path lay straight
My eyes are fixed on the road ahead
But at my feet
Lay the bones of those who have gone before
It seems so clear
The steps that I’ve been called to take
But who can know
What it’s like to walk in my shoes? But I’ve been called to make a difference
Called to lead the way
To dig beneath the surface of the smiles
To find the hearts that have decayed
To bring them hope and promise
Of a love that never ends
And the truth about a man whose blood
Washes away our sinsIt’s plain to see
What so many just can’t understand
He is the Truth,
The Way, the Life He is my Lord
I must go
Wherever He may take me ’cause
He is the Light
And I’ll take Him wherever I goWoe the man who walks beside the road
Cutting a wayward path to the unknown
Searching for his own way home
He knows not where he goesI’ve been called
And I agreed
I’ve been called
And now I’m freed
I’ve been called to face my fears
And now I hear
What God’s been trying to tell me
All these years -
Take My Hand, O Lord
Take me, O Lord, by the hand
I know I’ll fall,
But I only need your Love
To help me stand;
You are my Savior
And guiding hand…O, Lord, Your Love gives me strength
To stride through each day
With courage and purpose full;
So take my hand,
And guide my journey
Through this land…My heart’s seen the Truth
My eyes have seen the proof
Of Your LoveAnd I take You, Lord, into my heart
That I may finish all I start;
There’s nothing I can’t do
With Your Love to see me throughAnd I know I’ll never lose my way
With You to guide me through each day
That I may sit with You as planned
O Lord, please take my hand…
